(Including vice versa: why breatwork matters for politics )
At the occasion of the Online-Workshop: Pranayama (‘breathwork’) for the Politically Stressed – July 25 ( donation based) , it may be useful to discuss at first, why pranayama or breathwork are even brought in connection with politics. Is this connection far-fetched? Not at all. I would say, it is the other way around.
Regarding personal practice, collective self care, learning in and from cultural traditions as unconnected to social and political life, is an artificial separation. It serves the purpouse of preventing us from reaching out when we feel weak or overwhelmed, and instead makes us resort to shame. The more shame driven individuals and populations are, the better they can be controlled.
Whether one agrees or disagrees with this (very) political reading – there are many more reasons why politics are relevant for pranayama, and for our personal practice.
I listed six of them in the article on the ✨ brandnew substack.
